The school views physical activity as a hugely important part of personal development. It can provide confidence, physical development and enjoyment. In addition, in terms of developing the concept of T.E.A.M.W.O.R.K., working together with others in a physical way is one of the best ways in which to develop that sense of trust and responsibility within a group context.

Whilst we believe our PE offer is outstanding, having received the Gold Sports Mark, not all pupils enjoy the more traditional 'sport-based' activities and therefore, the school has looked for alternatives to ensure that all engage and benefit from physical activity.

Once a term, each class enjoys an additional PE morning to engage with the Commando Joe's Programme.

This is a specially designed programme of group and team-building activities linked to inspirational explorers and expeditionists. The tasks involve physical challenges or missions where our house teams must work together to be successful.

As this is not based on traditional physical skills, we find that this enjoys high levels of engagement from pupils who are sometimes less confident in PE and allows them to enjoy the feeling of success within physical activity.

Moreover, as the programme has a real focus upon resilience and perseverance, we feel that this programme is a huge addition to our personal development programme and benefits the pupils across their learning.
